Don’t ever feel guilty or selfish for wanting a good night’s sleep for you and your family. Sleep is the foundation for good health – Studies show that adequate sleep improves attention span, memory consolidation, behaviour, learning and overall mental and physical health. I don’t know how many times I heard the phrase “Sleep now because you’ll never sleep again” while i was pregnant, and I believed it!
Everyone made me believe that being exhausted when you have young children is just the “New normal” and I’m here to tell you that it’s simply not true.
My Name is Aine and I am a mum to two beautiful little boys. I had my boys in Calgary, Canada, where like many, we had little to no support network around us, so having a good night’s sleep and predictable daytime schedule was very important for me and my husband. My first born was the driving force for me to make changes. I’ve been there, I’ve suffered the early rising, the 30 minute catnaps, the night wakings, the contact naps etc. I’ve sat outside my son’s bedroom in tears just wishing he would sleep. Once I took those steps and made the necessary changes, my mood improved drastically. I was a more present and engaged parent and had the energy to do fun activities my children.
